Do Liquid Facelifts Have a Recovery Time?
A liquid facelift doesn’t require incisions or sutures, so its recovery is relatively quick. In fact, most patients return to their normal activities directly after the procedure. The most common side effects that you may encounter after a liquid facelift are bruising, redness, and swelling.
So, although a liquid facelift does technically require some recovery, the time involved is almost insignificant. Simply put, you can drive yourself away from our aesthetic center to the next item on your to-do list.
The best candidates for a liquid facelift include healthy women and men who need help with:
- Loss of facial volume
- Wrinkles and lines
- Early signs of skin laxity, especially around the eyes and in the jowl area
- Sagging brow causing a tired, angry appearance
What’s Involved
As suggested earlier, swelling, redness, and bruising can result from filler injections. Still, they are limited to a short period. Here are some helpful hints to help the process along:
Reduce Swelling
The best way to limit swelling is to apply ice packs or compresses to the treatment site. In addition, avoid alcohol for a couple of days after injections and stop taking vitamin E, aspirin, and NSAIDs, like Motrin and Aleve. These drugs can contribute to or extend any swelling in the treatment areas.
Reduce Facial Movements
Avoid excess facial movements for two days after your liquid facelift. Stress will increase the blood flow to the face, leading to redness and soreness at the treatment sites. And avoid direct sun exposure after injections.
No Rubbing
Try not to rub the treatment site for 24 hours after injections. Avoid lying down for a few hours after the treatment. Juvéderm®, Radiesse®, and Restylane® fillers should not be rubbed with force for three days. Sculptra® is the exception, which requires periodic massaging for the first five days.
Use a Mineral-Based Makeup
A mineral-based makeup can cover any bruising from the procedure while allowing your skin to breathe. In addition, this type of makeup will promote healing.
Skin Care
The best way to maintain the results of a liquid facelift is to apply a medical-grade skin care regimen. Dr. Donofrio can recommend a skin care regimen best suited for your skin.
